The fruit is starting to fade and dry, allowing the oak to wiggle its way to the fore. Aromas of shriveled red and black berries, licorice, mint, cedar and chocolaty oak are all present. Because the fruit is less supple and generous than it would have once been on the palate, the powerful tannins and acidity feel a little lean and mean. Drink now or over the next few years.
