This open-sided tiered side/end table is a rare and early piece by Vladimir Kagan, circa 1949, featuring three hand-made ceramic art tiles by J. Warner Prins, signed, and a lower shelf in a cubist form. It was designed prior to Kagan's time at Kagan-Dreyfuss and is documented in the book "Vladimir Kagan, A Lifetime of Avant-Garde Design" on pages 43 and 44, along with other designs featuring Prins and Alexandra Kasuba's artisan ceramic tiles. This collectors item is suitable for high-end interiors and art investors recognize the value of Kagan's works, especially from his earlier years. The future potential value of Prins' art tiles makes this signed tiered side table a remarkable opportunity for functional fine art. It would look great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern, or Danish Modern home or a Contemporary or Post-Modern room, as well as in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical, or Art Deco room. It would also be a perfect fit in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge, members club, creative design studio, or high-rise executive office. The oak frame has been lightly refinished and is in beautiful condition while the ceramic art tiles are in very good vintage condition and intact with no visible losses. The color is vivid and clean throughout, and the grout is mostly in place with some areas of minor grout loss. With all these features, this table is an excellent and ideal collectors example.
