This is a well-preserved Mid-Century Modern American sofa designed by Vladimir Kagan for Directional. The four-seater piece features a serpentine shape with an arched seat back and two wide upholstered wooden bases supported by lucite glass. The sofa comes with two pillows and has been recently reupholstered in a white bouclé fabric from Pierre Frey. The label at the bottom verifies its authenticity. With its age-related wear and tear, this sofa is estimated to date from around the 1970s to 1980s. The seat measures 18.5" h x 84" w x 24" d, while the pillows are 18" h x 18" w x 8" d. The German-born, American furniture designer and architect Vladimir Kagan (1927-2016) learned his craft from his Russian cabinetmaker father. After emigrating to the US, he became known for his retail store and attracted famous clients, including Marilyn Monroe.
