Designed by VIco Magistretti for Cattelan in the late 1970s, this Hollywood Regency side table showcasing a chic combination of Travertine, brass, and glass exudes elegance and sophistication. The glass and Travertine are in pristine condition, while the brass displays some evidence of corrosion. This exquisite piece will be shipped abroad in a custom-made wooden crate, with the transport cost to the US, including the crate, amounting to Euro 350. Magistretti, who was born to an architect father on October 6, 1920, in Milan, Italy, fled the nation during World War II to avoid being captured by the Germans during his military service. While he was away, he taught at the local university and studied at the Champ Universitaire Italien in Lausanne. It was there that he met his teacher, Ernesto Nathan Rogers, who was instrumental in shaping his views. Magistretti returned to Milan in 1945 and earned his degree from the Politecnico di Milano University. After his graduation, he began working at his father's firm with Paolo Chessa, focusing on urban planning initially. He then went on to become a prominent name in the mass-produced furniture and lighting sector in the 1950s, with many of his designs being featured in museums. Companies like Artemide, Cassina, De Padova, Flou, Fritz Hansen, and Schiffini employed his services. One of his most significant accomplishments was designing the renowned Carimate chair for Cassina, which combined elements of rural simplicity, pop-art, and Scandinavian design in a unique and sophisticated manner.
