A pendant light fixture called 'Sonora' was designed by VIco Magistretti in 1976. It emits light both directly and diffusely via an opaline blown Murano glass diffuser, and is produced by Oluce in Italy. The lamp's creation was inspired by Magistretti's affinity for geometric shapes throughout his life; simplicity was always his primary source of inspiration. Sonora has become a symbol of this creative process, offered in multiple materials and sizes, and has remained a popular fixture for 40 years both among the public and Magistretti himself. The lamp is medium-sized, measuring D50cm x W50cm x H25cm with a cable length of 240cm. It is made of metal and opaline blown Murano glass and requires 2 x max 100W (E27) bulbs. Oluce, established in 1945, is the oldest Italian design company in the lighting sector; its designs are characterized by crisp, linear and decorative aesthetics. They have received numerous awards, including two Golden Compass awards, two Design Awards, and the Gold Medal at the 13th Triennale in Milan. Oluce is known for their innovative use of materials and original designs and has worked with pioneering designers such as Tito Agnoli, Joe Colombo, and Marco Zanuso. More recent collections have been created by Angeletti & Ruzza, Francesco Rota, and Nendo, among others.
