The beautiful model 781 square walnut table by VIco Magistretti for Cassina in the 60s and 70s boasts a solid walnut construction with a dark brown aniline top. Cassina Spa, an Italian company established in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda, specializes in woodworking to manufacture high-quality coffee tables. Initially, the company commenced as an artisanal producer, but after the World War, collaborations with external architects enhanced its production capacity by introducing industrial design. In the 1950s, Cassina received a request for furnishing the interiors of large cruise ships, which fueled its shift towards serial production. VIco Magistretti, a prominent Italian designer, urban planner, and architect, joined the company's design team in 1963 and created the iconic carimate armchair. His timeless and uncomplicated design set the benchmark for home, office, and corporate furniture throughout the latter half of the twentieth century.
