Reimagined for O-Luce, Italy, the "Snow" table lamp by VIco Magistretti boasts a striking large white plexiglas shade and is grounded by a circular Carrara marble base. The lamp is in good condition and is a testament to Magistretti's innovative design philosophy that did not tolerate bad design. Magistretti, one of the founding fathers of modern Italian design, was an eminent architect and industrial designer. He took inspiration from renowned humanist architect Ernesto Nathan Rogers while collaborating on several reconstruction projects in Switzerland during World War II. The designer's vision of the relationship between modernity and tradition is evident in his deceptively simple mid-century furnishings like stylish table lamps, armchairs, and sofas. Magistretti's career took off in design in the 1950s, while he was working with furniture artisans, and he continued his passion for design through his 30-year working relationship with Cesare Cassina of Cassina furniture manufacturing company in the 1960s. Although their friendship was not always smooth, the two shared a vision of modernity and tradition that's still celebrated today.
