In 1977, designer VIco Magistretti created a table lamp that has since become the quintessential example of the form. Manufactured by Oluce in Italy, the Atollo lamp won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award in 1979 and completely redefined the classic bedside lamp. Its geometric composition of cylinder, cone, and hemisphere shapes blends decorative and essential elements seamlessly, transcending any specific historical period or passing fashion trends. Today, the Atollo lamp is widely acknowledged as an iconic symbol of Italian design. Available in a satin gold metal finish, the lamp measures 38cm in diameter and 50cm tall. The technical details include 2 x max 75 W (E27) + 1 x max 40 W (E14) with a universal dimmer. The lamp is wired for use in Europe, but may require adaptation for use in other countries. Founded in 1945, Oluce is the oldest Italian lighting design company still in operation and has won numerous awards for its crisp, linear, and decorative designs. Their lamps are included in collections worldwide and have been created over the years by notable designers such as Tito Agnoli, Joe Colombo, Marco Zanuso, Ostuni e Forti, and Magistretti. Contemporary designers who have collaborated with Oluce include Angeletti & Ruzza, Francesco Rota, Nendo, VIctor Vasilev, Nicola Gallizia, Christophe Pillet, Mist-o, and David Lopez Quincoces.
