Critic tasting note: "In a moisture-prone region like Hunter, a warm, dry vintage like 2018 is a good thing. One of the region's best-known reds, Vat 9 is from old vines (some dating to 1892), with far older red-clay soils over limestone. This wine takes its time opening but soon offers flavorful layers of cranberry, blueberry, florals and subdued but present oak. This vintage is on the rich side, with leathery, chiseled tannins. A few years stashed away should offer big rewards. Drink 2022–2036. Christina Pickard" - 94/100, Wine Enthusiast
