The Lucio chair stands as an esteemed symbol of Brazilian design, featuring a sturdy wooden framework, predominantly made with rosewood, and a flat cane seat. Its backrest is expertly sculpted with an anatomical structure and turned feet. Esteemed designer Sergio Rodrigues created this masterpiece in 1956 as a tribute to Lucio COSTA, a renowned Brazilian architect and urban planner. The set includes eight chairs, all made with natural cane seats and rosewood. Renowned for his groundbreaking plan for Brasilia, Lucio COSTA played a crucial role in creating the MEC (Ministry of Education and Culture) building in Rio de Janeiro - an influential landmark that marked modern architecture in Brazil. The construction showcased a pioneering combination of Modern architecture and Brazilian industry. In his own words, COSTA believed that Rodrigues could "superimpose modern furniture elements on the Brazilian houses of our ancestors," acknowledging the unmistakable Brazilian essence in the designer's work. Rodrigues had a particular knack for working with wood and cane - both of which he deemed as essential materials for Brazilian design. Please note that these chairs have not undergone restoration work. However, restoration services can be obtained with the purchase of the chairs, with the time frame varying according to each case.
