The "Mole" Armchair, designed by Sergio Rodrigues (1927-2014), is his most iconic creation. Initially not well-received, it has since become the most recognizable piece of Brazilian design. Composed of a solid rounded Rosewood frame, adjustable leather support straps, and floppy, oversized luxurious leather cushions, the Mole Armchair provides anatomical comfort to its user. This piece defines a new approach to design emphasizing comfort and attention to scale over the rigid and antiseptic trends of its time. In 1961, it won an award at the IV Furniture Bienal in Italy, and it is now part of the collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. According to Rodrigues, the design reflects the Brazilianness of its materials and exudes a certain informality. While the original Rosewood structure is intact, our team can restore it upon request.
