This is a solid jacaranda Mucki Bench that is in very good condition overall. The time patina adds to its charm as it was intended. Designed by Sergio Rodrigues, known as the "father of Brazilian modern design," the Mucki is a versatile piece that can serve as either a bench or a coffee table. It is one of his early works and is featured in Soraia Cals' "Sergio Rodrigues" and Aric Chen's "Brazilian Modern" literature. Rodrigues was a renowned Brazilian architect and designer who, alongside Joaquim Tenreiro and José Zanine Caldas, transformed Brazilian design into industrial design and made it known worldwide. He had his peak in the 50s and 60s when he brought the Brazilian identity to his projects, utilizing traditional materials like leather, wood, and rattan and exalting the Brazilian and native culture. His furniture was also utilized in the construction of Brasília, Brazil's capital, and his most famous work was the Sheriff's chair (1957), which inspired many works until today with its fit and upholstery innovations. According to Rodrigues himself, a piece of furniture is not just about its shape and material; it also carries its spirit, the Brazilian spirit. Rodrigues died in 2014 at Rio de Janeiro of liver failure.
