This Midcentury Expandable Dining Table in Hardwood by Sergio Rodrigues, crafted in the 60s in Brazil, is an absolute piece of art that is now available. Made entirely of Brazilian Rosewood or Jacaranda, it boasts of four legs in the shape of "bowling pins" and an exquisite wooden top. The size of the table is ideal for four when closed and can comfortably accommodate six when expanded. Displayed in our showroom next to a Joaquim Tenreiro-designed six rosewood chair, this table is a unique masterpiece. There are three reasons why I am in love with this table. Firstly, it embodies Rodrigues's iconic style seen in his other famous pieces such as the Mole armchair or Burton dining table. Secondly, the size of the table is impressive, being stately even when closed and substantial when expanded. Lastly, the quality of the rosewood is phenomenal, with beautiful veins and exquisite woodwork on the top and edges. Apart from minor marks on the legs, the table is in excellent condition. This table perfectly blends with any mid-century modern, modern, or contemporary interior, making it quite versatile. It can be styled to match the surroundings, either as a minimalist or maximalist piece. For history buffs, Rodrigues's career began in the 1950s, where he aimed to design furniture that was uniquely Brazilian, yet modernist. He achieved this task with his robust, modern, and pure design language reflected in his work. The table measures H29.5, W52.4, D38.2 (in) or H75, W133, D96 (cm). When expanded, it is 64.2 (in) / 163 (cm) wide. Overall, this magnificent table is a true one-of-a-kind piece.
