Sergio Rodrigues, an accomplished Brazilian architect-designer, was born to a family of artists and intellectuals in Rio de Janeiro in 1927. After his graduation from the National School of Architecture of Rio de Janeiro in 1952, Rodrigues pivoted towards furniture design and went on to establish Oca, a design house that focused on creating modern yet authentically Brazilian furniture in 1955. Rodrigues, considered to be one of Brazil's most momentous modern designers, is renowned for his use of native materials such as Jacaranda, Imbuia, and Peroba while drawing inspiration from traditional styles to channel the Brazilian identity.
