During the mid-century era of Brazilian furniture making, it was common practice to furnish homes and commercial buildings in exchange for special commissions. As part of this tradition, Sergio Rodrigues (1927-2014) and Joaquim Tenreiro were hired to design and furnish the interiors of BLOCH EDITORES S.A. BUILDING, a Brazilian publisher founded in 1952 and closed in 2000. In 1964, Rodrigues created this chair with a focus on comfort, featuring large seats and backrests. The chairs were crafted using beautiful Brazilian Rosewood with varying tones and adorned with a patrimony metal tag bearing identification numbers. Thanks to Rodrigues' innovative approach to design, he was able to establish a unique and recognizable Brazilian identity in the field.
