Fritz Hansen's PK22 Lounge chair, with polished brushed steel and cream leather, is up for sale. There are two nearly identical chairs open for purchase, with the listed price being for each chair. Originally designed in 1956, the PK22 is one of Poul Kjaerholm's most recognized and celebrated designs. Its design is inspired by the ancient Greek Klismos chair and Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona chair, with a strong and lightweight frame supported by angled legs. The chair's frame is made of bent steel bar and its simple elegance can be traced back to Kjaerholm's graduation project, the Element Chair, which was an earlier version of the PK25. A single piece of steel frame was used for the PK25, but the PK22 was modified to lower production costs. The PK22 was an instant commercial hit, with Kjaerholm's design winning the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1957, promptly elevating his reputation and career. He went on to produce several significant designs together with his close friend and production partner Ejvind Kold Christensen, collectively referred to as The Kjærholm Collection. They served as Kjaerholm's creations from 1951 to 1967 and were eventually licensed to Fritz Hansen in 1982, two years after his death. The PK22 is produced by Fritz Hansen to this day. This specific PK22 model was most likely created in the 1990s, as evidenced by the Fritz Hansen stamp and label present. It is in excellent original condition, with only minor indicators of use such as minor scuffs and slight stretching in the leather. No major defects, tears, or holes are present, as seen in the accompanying photos. While the chair can be purchased separately via this listing, there are two chairs available that are nearly identical in color and condition. They can be bought as a matched pair at a reduced rate on another listing on the same site.
