Louis Poulsen's PH5 Pendant, designed by Poul Henningsen in Denmark in 1958, has been adapted to accommodate the ever-changing shapes and sizes of incandescent bulbs. Henningsen named this pendant after the size of its main shade, measuring 50 cm in diameter, and introduced it with the intention of creating a fixture that could be used with any light source, including 100 W metal filament bulbs and Christmas lights. To improve the quality of light emitted by the PH 5, Henningsen added small red and blue shades to supplement the eye's least sensitive colors in the spectrum, ultimately creating a light that is 100% glare-free, no matter the installation or light source. Although the red and blue rings are no longer essential to achieving superior light quality, the PH5 continues to be a popular choice for modern interiors, now available in monochrome variants like black, white, and ultra blue, and pastel colors like Oyster Grey, Pale Rose, Peach, and Blue.
