Designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in 1958, the PH5 pendant was created to address the constant changes in shape and size of incandescent bulbs made by manufacturers. Its name derives from the size of its main shade, which measures 50 cm in diameter. Henningsen inserted small red and blue shades to enhance the color reproduction characteristics of the light source, making it more pleasing to the eye. Although the red and blue rings are no longer necessary due to the advancements in light source technology, the PH5 remains a timeless 100% glare-free classic that complements modern interiors. In 2020, new monochrome variants in black, white, and ultra blue were added to the range, and in 2022, the PH5 Pastels series was introduced, featuring monochrome pastel colors and pastel combinations that reflect modern interior design trends.
