Louis Poulsen's PH5 pendant was designed by Poul Henningsen back in 1958 as a response to the frequent changes made by bulb manufacturers to the shape and size of incandescent bulbs. It was named for the pendant's main shade, which is 50 cm in diameter. Henningsen aimed to improve the colour reproduction of the light source by adding small red and blue shades to supplement the colours in the parts of the spectrum where the eye is least sensitive. Today, the PH5 is known for being 100% glare-free, making it a popular choice for modern interiors. The range was recently extended with monochrome variants in black, white, and ultra blue, and the PH5 Pastels series was introduced in 2022, featuring pastel colours such as Oyster Grey, Pale Rose, and Blue. These combinations reflect modern interior trends and look stunning in any space.
