Louis Poulsen's PH5 mini pendant, designed by Poul Henningsen in 1958, was created in response to the frustrating changes made by bulb manufacturers to incandescent bulbs. Its name was derived from the size of its main shade, which has a diameter of 50 cm. Henningsen's bold design was intended to accommodate any type of light source, even Christmas lights and 100 W metal filament bulbs, as he had lost faith in the manufacturers' ability to consider the consumers' best interests. Despite this cynicism, the PH5 light remains 100% glare-free, even with varying installation or lighting sources. The PH5 has remained popular in modern interiors, as evidenced by the 2017 introduction of the smaller PH5 Mini with a top shade measuring 30 cm in diameter. This new size caters to contemporary and creative living and is emphasized in the 2020 PH5 Mini Monochrome series, featuring matte metal shades in black, white, and ultra blue for a bold touch.
