Born in Copenhagen to the renowned Danish actress Agnes Henningsen, Poul Henningsen pursued his education at The Technical School in Frederiksberg, Denmark from 1911-14 and later at Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914-17. Although he initially practiced traditional functionalistic architecture, his professional interests shifted over time to focus largely on lighting, which became his most notable contribution to the field. Poul Henningsen created the PH 5 in 1958 as a successor to his popular three-shade system. The fixture is designed to emit 100% glare-free light, providing both downward and lateral illumination. The PH 5 Classic boasts a warmer tone of light, achieved through the use of an inner red cone and a small blue reflector. Crafted from spun aluminum or spun copper, the PH 5 is available in a range of colors such as blue, rose, green, or red for the former and in white (for Copper), purple (for Classic), or bronze colored, rolled aluminum. The light source for this fixture is a single 6W LED bulb of type A-15, which is included in the package. It operates on 120V voltage and is an excellent addition to any space.
