Poul Henningsen, the son of renowned Danish actress Agnes Henningsen, did not complete his architecture degree but instead attended The Technical School in Frederiksberg, Denmark from 1911-14, and later Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914-17. Although he initially pursued traditional functionalistic architecture, his interests gradually shifted towards lighting design, which became his most notable contribution to the field. In 1958, he introduced the PH 5 as a successor to his famous three-shade system. This particular fixture offers glare-free lighting and emits both downward and lateral light, providing illumination to the fixture itself. It also features an inside red cone and a small blue reflector that create a warmer tone of light in the PH 5 Classic. The materials used to construct this fixture include spun aluminum, spun copper, and rolled aluminum in white (for Copper), purple (for Classic), or bronze colors. The light source is a 6W LED, and the bulb type is A-15, which is included with the fixture. The voltage is 120V.
