Poul Henningsen, who was born to the renowned Danish actress Agnes Henningsen in Copenhagen, did not complete his education in architecture. Rather, he attended The Technical School in Frederiksberg, Denmark from 1911-1914, and then pursued further studies at Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914-1917. Initially, he practiced traditional functionalistic architecture, but gradually shifted his professional focus to lighting, which became his forte and for which he gained immense fame. His innovative and iconic fixture is based on the reflective three-shade system, which skillfully directs most of the light downwards. Constructed from mouth-blown opal three-layer glass, the shades feature a glossy top and a sandblasted matt underside, creating a pleasant and even light distribution. The fixture is available in different materials such as black metalized or high lustre chrome plated, as well as brass. It also features a handblown white opal glass, and black metalized or high lustre chrome plated, spun brass. The light source is a 1 x 10W LED, and the bulb type is A-19, although the bulb is not included. The voltage requirement for the fixture is 120V.
