The first edition of the Pierre Paulin "Tongue" lounge chairs from the 1960s exudes a timeless elegance that is not bound by fleeting fashion trends. The undulating shape of the chair, which is more akin to a cushion than a traditional seat, allows for a comfortable reclining position only a few centimeters above the ground. The soft and streamlined form, made possible by a groundbreaking technique of wrapping the inner metal frame with foam rubber and stretchy fabric, creates a sculptural look that adds refinement to any interior. Recently reupholstered in high-quality Pierre Frey wool from Paris, France, the "Tongue" lounge chair offers both excellent structural properties and maximum comfort. Paulin, a functionalist who added "two drops of poetry" to his work, collaborated with Artifort on several iconic pieces, including the Mushroom Chair and the Ribbon Chair. His works are featured in the collections of numerous notable institutions worldwide, and he passed away in Montpellier, France in 2009.
