These armchairs, model CM 194, are a distinctive set of mid 20th century designs, created by the visionary Pierre Paulin for France's Thonet Furniture Company around 1958. Their clever ergonomic design is intended to generate the perfect seated posture, featuring a supportive seat and back. This design is particularly noteworthy as it served as an important precursor to his more well-known Mushroom, Tongue, and Ribbon designs. The chairs themselves are adorned in a luxurious felted wool, with a one-piece seat and back, flanked by floating arms, all supported by an enameled tubular black steel frame. This creates a unique illusion of weightlessness and suspension within the room. Recently, the chairs were lovingly restored and reupholstered in a pristine white felted wool fabric.
