The Mid-Century Modern blue mushroom chair by Pierre Paulin with its original upholstery exudes comfort and a non-formal vibe. Paulin was known to shake up the French furniture design scene in the 1960s and '70s with his sleek and futuristic style. Having been inspired by designers Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson and Arne Jacobsen during his time at the école Camondo, his designs for Artifort, the Dutch firm he joined in 1958, embody abstract organic shapes. The Mushroom chair, designed in 1960, is one such piece and was extremely popular upon release with its plush, low and sculptural form in bright-colored fabric. For Paulin, who was seeking new methods of manufacturing chairs at the time, this chair was a significant milestone in his career.
