The mushroom chair is widely recognized as one of the most renowned designs worldwide. Pierre Paulin, the visionary designer, made a name for himself with this armchair's unique shape, vivid colors, and advanced manufacturing techniques for its time. While observing women dressed in swimsuits, Paulin was inspired to create a seat with the same curves and form-fitting characteristics. Hence, the beautiful curves and the elastic, one-piece fabric cover construction were born. In partnership with Artifort's development department, Paulin researched and perfected the seamless, stretch fabric cover technique, a groundbreaking method in seat design. He rejected the conventional nail and upholstery approach and created a new aesthetic, which has revolutionized the world's perception of design. The legendary armchair, formerly known as F562, is now recognized as the Mushroom, and it is part of New York's Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection. This iconic armchair features round shapes, comfortable padding, and striking hues that lend an original and fashionable touch. The Mushroom's plush, welcoming, and exceedingly comfortable form makes it an eye-catching fauteuil that invites curling up for a delightful experience. The chair's base includes a multiplex black floor plate, five white plastic gliders, and the option of metal or felt gliders. The frame comprises a steel insert frame covered with molded foam and is available in Grade AA fabric.
