Pierre Paulin was a celebrated designer (1927-2009) whose iconic creations included the stunning élysée coffee table (1971). Originally commissioned for the private quarters of Claude and Georges Pompidou at the Elysée Palace, this masterpiece was crafted by the workshop of research and creation at the Mobilier National. Alpha International later produced it in 1972-1973. The coffee table features aluminum casting, light buff-colored microblasted lacquer, and smoked glass. Numerous publications, including Anne Chapoutot's Pierre Paulin: un univers de formes (1992), Nadine Descendre's Pierre Paulin: l'homme et l'≈ìuvre (2014), and exhibition catalogs such as Pierre Paulin: le design au pouvoir, highlight Paulin's revolutionary contribution to modern furniture design.
