Born in Paris in 1927, Pierre Paulin is renowned for designing some of his most famous pieces in collaboration with Dutch manufacturer Artifort. His works, such as the tongue chair, ribbon chair, and tulip chair, have been exhibited in prominent museums like the MOMA in New York and Centre Pompidou in Paris. One of Paulin's most iconic pieces is the F598 Groovy or M-Chair, which was originally created in 1972. Despite its compact size, the Groovy Chair is highly comfortable and visually impressive, making it a top-selling item in the 1970s. Today, it's out of production, which makes it even more desirable and valuable as a collector's item. This particular Groovy Chair, which was manufactured in the 1980s, is in excellent condition and comes signed and numbered on its rare brown base. Although I purchased the chair in its current form, I suspect that it may have undergone a professional re-upholstery at some point in the past due to its immaculate appearance. Regardless, the chair looks fantastic and will be a stunning addition to any collection.
