Pierre Paulin was a renowned French designer born in Paris in 1927, who collaborated with Dutch manufacturer Artifort to create some of his most famous pieces. The Tongue Chair, the Ribbon Chair, and the Groovy Chair are some of his notable works that can be found in renowned museums such as MOMA in New York and Centre Pompidou in Paris. The Big Tulip Chair, designed in the 1960s, is a prime example of Pierre Paulin's signature style that fuses the futuristic Space Age aesthetic with the colorful Flower Power movement. The chair's unique design that encircles the sitter in half-open petals exudes a warm and inviting feel, as described in Artifort's catalogue. Despite being out of production for a while, the Tulip Chair made a comeback in Artifort's collection in 2003. The listed Tulip armchair, which dates back to 2010, is a stunning piece in excellent condition. It boasts a non-swiveling metal-strip cross base and the original red Kvadrat upholstery that remains fresh and immaculate. The chair also retains its metal Artifort badge.
