The armchair and ottoman model known as the "Mushroom" was created by Pierre Paulin (1927-2009) and manufactured by Artifort in France during the 1960s. The piece is made of steel and upholstery, and measures 86.36 cm x 81.28 cm x 63.5 cm (34 in. x 32 in. x 25 in.). It comes from a private collection in France. Paulin was a student at the Camondo school before joining Marcel Gascoin's studio in the early 1950s. He worked with Thonet France from 1952 to 1967 and Artifort from 1958. In addition to creating furniture, Paulin was involved in official projects such as the reorganization of the Louvre in 1968 and developing furniture for the Houses of Culture. In 1969, he designed furniture for the private apartments of the Elysee Palace at the request of Georges Pompidou, with the constraint of reversible decor. Paulin created a set with soft tones that contrasted nicely with the colorful pieces by Agam.
