The renowned Chandigarh project in India has an interesting history, dating back to India's independence in 1947. Upon commissioning a contemporary architect for the creation of the new capital of the Punjab region, Nehru entrusted Le Corbusier with this important task. The project aimed to showcase a bright future for the country and encompassed the creation of all necessary furniture for housing and administrative buildings. Le Corbusier enlisted the help of Pierre Jeanneret, his cousin and long-time collaborator, to design this furniture. Together, they managed to effortlessly blend modern design with traditional Indian craftsmanship.
