The Pierre Jeanneret-designed armchairs from circa 1955 have been relaunched in 2020 by Cassina, an Italian-based manufacturer. As part of the Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret Collection, which features essential forms and simple materials that balance modern European ideals with traditional Indian spirit, the Kanga-roo low armchair was added to Cassina's collection of furniture inspired by the city of Chandigarh. The chair's "Z" shape sides, made up of three triangular coplanar elements, is characteristic of the design and was originally made for the city's General Hospital Hall but was also found in private homes. The wooden frame includes typical weaving for added comfort and a cushion can be added for protection. This product is a tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, who spent his career until 1967 working in India, blending essential forms with simple materials to create a bridge between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. Designed in collaboration with Le Corbusier, the Chandigarh project is considered his most mature work. Actual colors displayed on computer screens may vary due to the different capabilities of each device, and Cassina affirms its commitment to furnishing homes with a mix of contemporary and futuristic design.
