The Pierre Jeanneret-designed chair from circa 1950 has been relaunched in 2019 and is now manufactured by Cassina in Italy. This chair can be commonly found in the offices of the Secretariat in Chandigarh's Capitol Complex and is identifiable by its solid wood construction. Its woven backrest and seat, stretched across a wooden frame, are typical of the area, which also makes use of local woods like teak. The armless chair features shorter inverted "V" sidebars that don't extend to the arms, but more emphasis is placed on the seating and backrest sequence in Viennese woven cane. The product pays tribute to Pierre Jeanneret's work in India, where he sought to merge modern European ideals with traditional Indian spirit using simple materials and forms. The product is part of Cassina's I Maestri collection, which revives furnishings by iconic architects like Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and more. Cassina has always been at the forefront of manufacturing contemporary design pieces from the 1950s to the present day, and continues to push the boundaries of design innovation.
