The Armchair, originally designed by Pierre Jeanneret circa 1950, has been relaunched in 2019 and is now manufactured by Cassina in Italy. The design was included in UNESCO's 2016 Cultural Heritage list and is part of Le Corbusier's Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, which celebrates an independent nation open to modernity. The armchair features a "V" support structure theme, with only the rests, connecting crossbars, and external joints between the arms and the backrest being exposed wooden parts. The armrests are fully padded, creating a rounded and geometric shape that offers both comfort and elegance. Cassina's reissue offers the classic version in teak, as well as two versions in natural and stained black oak. The Armchair is a tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, who played a key role in the realization of Chandigarh, combining essential forms with simple materials to create a meeting point between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. Jeanneret collaborated with Le Corbusier in Chandigarh, where they designed furniture and low-cost buildings for 15 years. Cassina has created the I Maestri collection, revisiting furnishing designs by the best-known architects of the twentieth century. Through evolved technology, Cassina preserves the designs and functional concepts while implementing an innovative soul, creating authentic and welcoming atmospheres.
