These Pierre Jeanneret low kangaroo chairs in black stained solid teak are a rare pair from Chandigarh circa 1960. While rosewood and teak versions are more commonly seen, the black stained teak variation is exceedingly uncommon. During the time of manufacture, pieces were coated in black stain for protective purposes and easier maintenance. While the chair frame has undergone slight conservation, the hand-caning has been redone. The chairs can be traced back to Chandigarh, India, followed by Kukje Gallery in Korea and ultimately a private collection in New York. Measuring 23 1/4" in height, 20 1/4" in width and 32" in depth, with an 18" seat depth and 13" seat height, these chairs are a unique find.
