This armless easy chair, crafted by Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s, is a rare and coveted piece created for the utopian city of Chandigarh in India, which was designed by his cousin Le Corbusier. The chair features a solid teak frame with flat profiled leg assembly, tilted backrest, square cane backrest, and cane rectangular seat. It has a low and raw appearance with slightly patinated materials, which adds to its appeal and uniqueness. Only a few examples of this design exist, making it highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. Jeanneret's designs are characterized by their essential forms and use of simple materials, a fusion of modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. An interesting fact about these chairs is that they were made from trees logged during city construction, showcasing early ecological thinking. Two of these rare chairs are available, both in excellent original condition. Be sure to visit our Goldwood storefront for more authentic designs by Pierre Jeanneret.
