These are a superb and authentic pair of Chandigarh chairs, handcrafted and locally made with high-quality teak and woven canework in the 1960s. Known as the Library chair, they feature a stunning X-shaped frame which is beautifully complemented by a convex 'banner' type backrest. They have been restored to retain their natural patina and are robust enough for everyday use. The original numbering and lettering, once used to identify their location in one of the government buildings, remain intact. Jeanneret's innovative design combines modernist principles with classical proportions, showcasing his exceptional craftsmanship. The story of Chandigarh adds another layer of intrigue to these iconic pieces, which are not only conversation-starters but also highly functional. This work is cited in E. Touchaleaume & G. Moreau's "Le Corbusier Pierre Jeanneret - l'aventure indienne", published by Editions Gourcuff Gradenigo, and its appreciation is best expressed through its unique beauty.
