Pierre Jeanneret was an architectural and design pioneer, alongside his cousin Le Corbusier. They paved the way for a novel aesthetic language, prioritizing function and order above ornamentation. Jeanneret added his personal touch to the strict geometry of modernism, incorporating dynamic diagonals and lighter materials such as wood and cane. A creative force, he collaborated with Charlotte Perriand on explorations in aluminum and wood, and worked with Jean Prouvé on prefab housing developments. In the early 1950s, Jeanneret accompanied his cousin to Chandigarh, India, where they embarked on a colossal urban planning endeavor. Their plan included laying out the city and devising low-cost buildings and furnishings. Although Corbusier abandoned the project midway through its completion, Jeanneret remained as the project's chief architect for 15 years. Today, the city stands as a testament to their innovative vision of modern urban architecture.
