The Pierre Jeanneret Model PJ-01101 High Stool from Chandigarh, India, circa 1965-66, exudes pure and authentic mid-twentieth-century design. Made of solid teak and featuring canework, the stool boasts a wide circular seat that has been replaced and mounted on a solid frame. Its leg assembly comprises four slightly splayed, tapered legs connected by a double wide cruciform crosspiece stretcher. This piece is adorned with original markings and letters, and was possibly intended for the science block of Panjab University. Despite having been reinforced, all original scuffs, dents, marks and patina have been tastefully preserved. Jeanneret's furniture designs for Chandigarh showcase a beautiful blend of modernist concepts, expert craftsmanship, and classical proportions.
