These are a pair of authentic arm chairs created by Pierre Jeanneret in Chandigarh, dating back to the period between 1955 and 1960. The chairs are constructed from high-quality Burma teak, and the seats and backs are carefully caned. Additionally, each chair base has been stenciled near the rear upper rail. These chairs were intended for use in both residential and civic areas in Chandigarh, the idealistic capital designed by Le Corbusier. Recently, the thin open-weave caning has been replaced, and the seat cushions have been updated to black ottoman fabric with chocolate brown welting. Our expert restorer has meticulously cleaned and waxed the frames, maintaining and respecting their exquisite patina. Documentation can be found in Le Corbusier Pierre Jeanneret: The Indian Adventure, Design-Art-Architecture, Touchaleaume and Moreau, pg. 559.
