The Chair, originally designed by Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s, has been relaunched in 2019 by Cassina in Italy. Recognizable for its appearance in Chandigarh's Capitol Complex and the Secretariat offices, the chair is made entirely of solid wood with inverted "V" sidebars supporting the armrests. The woven backrest and seat are common elements in the area. The armless chair also uses the "V" sidebars, with emphasis given to the seating/backrest sequence in Viennese woven cane, connected with a geometric section and coplanar legs. This product pays tribute to Jeanneret, who combined European ideals with Indian traditions through simple materials and essential forms during his tenure in India until 1967. The Chandigarh project, considered Le Corbusier's most mature work, summarizes his poetics, technique, and ideology. Cassina's I Maestri collection revisits designs by the twentieth century's renowned architects, with evolved manufacturing technology. Cassina continues to look towards the future of design with a philosophy of creating personal, welcoming atmospheres involving a conversation dominated by design excellence and cultural authority.
