The Armchair, originally designed by Pierre Jeanneret around 1950, has been revived by Cassina in Italy and relaunched in 2019. The Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, designed by Le Corbusier in 1951, includes the Haute Cour, Secretariat, and Assemblée wing, which comprised overstuffed armchairs with a V-support structure theme. The reissue of the Armchair by Cassina features the classic version in teak, as well as two versions in natural and stained black oak. The Armchair pays homage to Jeanneret, an integral part of the Chandigarh project, who blended modern European ideals with traditional Indian spirit. This project represents Le Corbusier's most mature work, summarizing his poetics, technique, and ideology. Cassina's I Maestri collection surpasses traditional preservation methods by utilizing evolved technology to manufacture iconic pieces of contemporary design while retaining their original functionality. Cassina has a futuristic approach, creating personal atmospheres of design excellence, formal sensitivity, and cultural authority.
