The Armchair was designed by Pierre Jeanneret circa 1950 and re-launched in 2019 by Cassina in Italy. This iconic piece of furniture was initially included in UNESCO's 2016 Cultural Heritage list, celebrating the modernity of an independent nation. The armchair's "V" support structure theme was seen in the overstuffed armchairs found in the Capitol Complex's Haute Cour, Secretariat and the Assemblée wing in Chandigarh, India. The wooden parts that were exposed were the rests, connecting crossbars, and the external joints between the arms and the backrest. The armrests' padding covered them almost entirely, giving the impression of a rounded geometric shape with unique seat and back cushioning for instant comfort. Cassina's 2019 re-issue of the classic armchair in teak, natural, and stained black oak is a tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, who was instrumental in completing the Chandigarh project, which showcased a fusion of European ideals with Indian tradition.
