The Armchair, designed by Pierre Jeanneret circa 1950 and relaunched in 2019 by Cassina in Italy, was included in UNESCO's 2016 Cultural Heritage list. It is part of the extraordinary architecture of Le Corbusier's Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, designed in 1951, which celebrates an independent nation open to modernity. The Haute Cour, Secretariat, and Assemblée wing make up the core of Chandigarh's Capitol Complex and were furnished with overstuffed armchairs all exhibiting the same "V" support structure theme. The reissued classic version by Cassina is available in teak, natural and stained black oak. The Armchair is a tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, who played a key role in the creation of Chandigarh and combined essential forms with simple materials to create a meeting point between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. Chandigarh is considered Le Corbusier's most mature work that summarises his poetics, technique and ideology. The Armchair is made from wood, leather and polyurethane foam padding and has dimensions of 76 cm in depth, 69 cm in width, 74 cm in height and a seat height of 37 cm. Pierre Jeanneret was a visionary of modernist architecture and design, collaborating with Charlotte Perriand and developing prefabricated housing with Jean Prouvé. In the early 1950s, he joined his cousin Le Corbusier in Chandigarh and remained as the project's chief architect for 15 years.
