The Armchair, designed by Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s and relaunched in 2019, is manufactured by Cassina in Italy. It is part of Le Corbusier's Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, which was included in UNESCO's 2016 Cultural Heritage list. The armchair features a "V" support structure theme, with its wooden parts limited to the rests, connecting crossbars, and external joints between the arms and backrest. The padding of the armrests creates a rounded, geometric shape that offers comfort while maintaining elegance and simplicity. Cassina's Classic version is made of teak, while the natural and stained black oak variations are also available. Pierre Jeanneret, a key figure in the realization of Chandigarh, is the designer behind this product. His experience in India led him to create a meeting point between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. The Chandigarh project is considered Le Corbusier's most mature work, summarizing his poetics, technique, and ideology. The Armchair is made of wood, leather, and has polyurethane foam padding. Its dimensions are 76 cm in depth, 69 cm in width, 74 cm in height, and a seat height of 37 cm. Please note that some images show other colors and variations of the model but only to present interior design proposals. The actual color may vary due to the difference in monitor displays. Pierre Jeanneret may have been overshadowed by his cousin Le Corbusier, but his work in modernist architecture and design was visionary. Together, they pioneered a new aesthetic vocabulary placing function and order over embellishment. Jeanneret was also an innovator in collaborating with Charlotte Perriand and developing prefabricated housing with Jean Prouvé. He remained in Chandigarh for 15 years, working as the project's chief architect. Cassina's I Maestri collection revisits renowned architects' furnishings designs. They have preserved the designs and functional concepts but have manufactured them using advanced technology. Cassina has also manufactured icons of contemporary design from the 50s to the present day. The company continues to look to the future of design with audacious, passionate curiosity and an open, holistic approach. The Cassina Perspective is a concept, philosophy, and futuristic thought that affirms its exclusive ability to furnish a home's living and dining spaces completely and iconically.
