The Armchair, originally designed by Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s, has been relaunched in 2019 by Italian manufacturer Cassina. This design is a tribute to Jeanneret's role in creating the iconic Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, which has been included in UNESCO's Cultural Heritage list. The armchair features a distinct "V" support structure theme in its design, with only the rests, connecting crossbars, and external joints being exposed in wood. The armrests have padding that almost completely envelops them, creating a rounded, geometric shape that is both elegant and comfortable. Cassina offers three versions of this reissued classic, with teak, natural oak, and stained black oak being the available options. Jeanneret's experience in India led him to combine essential forms with simple materials to create a meeting point between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. This collaboration between Jeanneret and Le Corbusier resulted in the Chandigarh project, which is considered Le Corbusier's most mature work and an example of his poetics, technique, and ideology. Cassina's I Maestri collection revisits the furnishing designs of the twentieth century's best-known architects, including Le Corbusier, Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, and others.
