The Armchair, designed by Pierre Jeanneret circa 1950, has been relaunched by Cassina in Italy in 2019. This design has been included in UNESCO's 2016 Cultural Heritage list due to its celebration of an independent nation embracing modernity, showcased through Le Corbusier's Capitol Complex in Chandigarh in 1951. The Haute Cour, Secretariat, and Assemblée wing constitute the core of the Capitol Complex, with the rooms furnished with overstuffed armchairs that share the same "V" support structure. The armrests are padded to create a rounded, geometric shape that exudes elegance and simplicity while ensuring optimal comfort. Cassina's reissue is available in the classic version in teak, as well as two versions in natural and stained black oak. The Armchair pays tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, a key figure in the realization of Chandigarh, who spent his entire experience in India until his demise in 1967. The Chandigarh project serves as Le Corbusier's most mature work, encapsulating his poetics, technique, and ideology in fulfillment of his mission to contribute to the culture of architecture and design. The Armchair is made with wood, leather, and polyurethane foam padding, with dimensions of 76 cm by 69 cm by 74 cm, and a seat height of 37 cm. The Armchair is designed by Pierre Jeanneret, a visionary of modernist architecture and design who, together with his cousin Le Corbusier, pioneered a new aesthetic vocabulary emphasizing function and order over decoration.
