The Armchair, originally designed by Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s, has been relaunched by Cassina in Italy in 2019. This iconic piece is part of the Haute Cour, one of the buildings in Le Corbusier's Capitol Complex that was included in UNESCO's Cultural Heritage list in 2016. The design of the armchair features a "V" support structure theme, with padding that almost completely envelops the armrests, creating a rounded geometric shape. Cassina offers a classic version in teak and two versions in natural and stained black oak. Pierre Jeanneret, a key figure in the realisation of Chandigarh, was instrumental in the project until his death in 1967. He combined essential forms with simple materials to bridge the gap between modern European ideals and the traditional Indian spirit. The Armchair is a testament to Jeanneret's legacy. Cassina's I Maestri collection, which revisits the designs of some of the twentieth century's best-known architects, including Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and Frank Lloyd Wright, aims to preserve the functional concepts of these designs while manufacturing them using evolved technology. Cassina continues to uphold its commitment to design excellence, cultural authority, and sensitivity.
