The Chair, originally designed by Pierre Jeanneret in 1950 and now relaunched in 2019, is produced by Cassina in Italy. This chair can be seen throughout the offices of the Secretariat in Chandigarh's Capitol Complex, with its pieces made of solid wood, including the side bars fashioned in an inverted "V" shape supporting the armrests. The woven backrest and seat stretched across its wooden frame is a common element in the region along with the use of local woods like teak. Similar to the renowned office chair, this armless chair also uses the "V" approach to sidebars, but shorter as they do not extend to the arms. Instead, significance is placed on the seating/backrest sequence in Viennese woven cane, connected with a massive geometric section supported by two wooden profiles, and coplanar legs that together present a simple yet powerful design. This product pays tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, a vital figure in the realization of Chandigarh, whose presence in India lasted until his death in 1967. His close links with the local area enabled him to harmonize elementary forms with simple materials, resulting in a blend of modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. The Chandigarh project, considered Le Corbusier's most accomplished work, reflects his poetics, technique and ideology, as he wanted to learn and contribute to the culture of architecture and design. The Chair's dimensions are as follows: D 58 cm, W 51 cm, H 81 cm and seat height 43 cm. Additionally, the product features a backrest and seat in Indian cane, a wooden frame, and an upholstered cushion. Please note that the images of the other colors and variations are for interior design proposals only. The actual colors may vary because of the different ways in which people see the colors on their monitors, laptops, tablets, or phones. Pierre Jeanneret was a visionary of modernist architecture and design, overshadowed by his cousin Le Corbusier, who together pioneered a novel aesthetic vocabulary that emphasized function and order over embellishment. Jeanneret collaborated with Charlotte Perriand on experiments in aluminum and wood and created prefabricated housing with Jean Prouvé. He joined his cousin in Chandigarh, India, where they embarked on a vast urban-planning project in the early 1950s, laying out the city and designing low-cost buildings and furniture. Although Corbusier abandoned the project halfway through, Jeanneret stayed for fifteen years as the project's chief architect, and the city remains a masterpiece of the modern vision. Cassina, the manufacturer, has developed the I Maestri collection, revisiting furnishing designs by the twentieth century's most famous architects, including Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, Franco Albini, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Marco Zanuso. While the designs and functional concepts have been precisely preserved, the models have been made using advanced technologies. Cassina has also been producing iconic contemporary design pieces since the 1950s by some of the most significant international designers. The company continues to look to the future of design with a passionate, audacious, and open approach. It affirms its sole ability to completely furnish a home's living and dining spaces iconically with The Cassina Perspective: a concept, a philosophy, an informed, futuristic thought. The products together create an innovative soul and modern icons that provide authentic, welcoming, and personal atmospheres with design excellence, formal sensitive awareness, solidity, and cultural authority.
